Open Air
"The lungs are constantly throwing off impurities, and they need to be constantly supplied with fresh air. Impure air does not afford the necessary supply of oxygen, and the blood passes to the brain and other organs without being vitalized. Hence the necessity of thorough ventilation. To live in close, ill-ventilated rooms, where the air is dead and vitiated, weakens the entire system.
It becomes peculiarly sensitive to the influence of cold, and a slight exposure induces disease. It is close confinement indoors that makes many women pale and feeble. They breathe the same air over and over until it becomes laden with poisonous matter thrown off through the lungs and pores, and impurities are thus conveyed back to the blood.” Ministry of Healing, p. 274.
Oxygen is one of the essential needs of each cell of the body. The immune system needs oxygen to defend the body against germs. When the system overwhelms bacteria it produces certain poisons with the oxygen, which kill the germs. When the body does not get enough oxygen, cancer cells thrive in that environment, leaving the immune system more of a battle to defend against those cells. Cancer is caused by a weakened immune system. We have cancer cells in our body all the time; however, the reason we do not get cancer is because the immune system is able to do its job effectively against the cancer cells. Pure fresh air is very important for effective body functions, indeed for life. This means the air we need has negatively ionized particles such as the air found in forests and around oceans. To get the most benefit from fresh air, take time to do deep breathing exercises daily (three times a day is best). Be sure to do this first thing early morning before breakfast. Take a deep breath in through the nose to full lung expansion, hold for a few seconds, then exhale through the mouth slowly until all air has been exhaled. Repeat this action 10-20 times. Deep breathing helps blood circulation, and is one way of many the body uses to remove toxins. To breathe fresh air while sleeping, open a bedroom window a little so air can circulate throughout the room, even on cold nights. Air bedrooms daily, ideally in the morning so that the room can warm up again as the sun shines in. Do not smoke tobacco and avoid secondhand smoke because this replaces the vital oxygen your lungs need for breathing. For this reason, also avoid smog and all chemicals as in cleaning solutions, solvents, paint removers, insect sprays, deodorants, hair dyes, disinfectants, pest strips, etc.
